Operation Enduring Freedom Sergeant First Class Matthew S. Sluss-Tiller, 35, Callettsburg, Kentucky was assigned to the 96th Civil Affairs Battalion (Abn), 95th Civil Affairs Bde (Abn), Fort Bragg, North Carolina, died on 03 February 2010.[2] SFC Sluss-Tiller honorably served with Battalion and also as an Instructor at the Advanced Airborne School. Operation Iraqi Freedom Specialist Marshall L. Edgerton, 27, Rocky Face, Georgia was assigned to A Company, 82nd Signal Battalion, died 11 December 2003 [1] Operation Urgent Fury Sergeant Sean P. Luketina, 23, was assigned to A Company (Assault Command Post Platoon), 82nd Signal Battalion wounded 27 October 1983 - died 30 June 1984 Command Sergeant Major (Retired) Raymond Thompson of Raeford, North Carolina died September 11, 2011. Joseph Charles Conner of Lakeland, Florida: February 5, 1975 - April 21, 2002. Earned the rank of Specialist and served with C Company, 82nd Signal Battalion. Sergeant Major (Ret) Robert E. Brophy (Bob) died, May 14, 2009 at age 70, in his hometown, New Castle, PA. Bob had been battling cancer for several years. "Bob began his military career with the 82nd Signal Battalion at Ft Bragg in 1957 as a Radio Operator. He had a long career as a combat Signalman in Airborne and Special Forces units, including overseas service with MACV-SOG in Vietnam, and SF and Signal assignments in Korea and Okinawa. Bob was assigned as 1SG of Company A, 82nd Signal Bn in 1976-77, and as the 82nd Signal Battalion Acting CSM in 1978-79.” [Thank you COL (Ret) Frank Long for this submission] Lieutenant General (Ret) Robert E. Gray died November 23, 2011 at age 70 as a result of a motor vehicle accident near Millen, Georgia. LTG (R) Gray enlisted in the United States Army in 1961, earned his commission as a Second Lieutenant graduating from OCS in 1966, and after 38 years of service retired as Deputy Commander In Chief, US Army Europe and Seventh Army in 1997. His previous commands include the 82nd Signal Battalion, 35th Signal Brigade, and Fort Gordon's 27th Commanding General. LTG (R) Gray was laid to rest in Arlington National Cementary.
