History of the 82d Signal Battalion and its involvement in Global War on Terrorism Era operations.

In response to the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001, the 82d Signal Battalion has been extremely active providing ongoing communications and network support to the many organization comprising the 82nd Airborne Division wherever they have deployed.

In 2006, as part of the Army's transformation to design and institute a brigade based organization versus division based one, the 82d Signal Battalion along with many other battalions of the former Bastard Brigade deactivated. The habitual support that once stood was severed although each company of the battalion was reassigned to one of the four Brigade Special Troops Battalion (BSTB) that is tasked with the mission of providing inline support to each Brigade Combat Team (1BCT, 2BCT, 3BCT and 4BCT) of the 82nd Airborne Division.
